About us

Coconiţe Experimental Dance Ensemble was founded in May 2006. The initiator was Lavinia Răileanu which, with an enthusiastic group of students has created the artistic group, that was founded to promote art in an innovative and customized form.
The name of Coconiţe Ensemble was chosen because it reflects the purpose of promoting the old arts through a new form, young, coquettish and full of tenderness, like high-bred young women of another time.
The ensemble is characterized by the easiness, vitality and youthful exuberance of the members who want to capture the novelty and exotic in a normal and familiar enviroment.

“The Idea, a word of Greek origin, meaning form, figure, appearance, has been the principle engine that has evolved over time and gained amplitude and force, and this is difficult to describe in words.
Living in a time and a space that always changes, we feel the need to implement our feelings and thoughts through vivid images that are born from the combination of natural elements, daily, in a form that has as a purpose live pictures in which we recognize that in a mirror.
Begining from the idea, we built each time another universe, of sounds, shapes, time, frame, states, etc.
We don’t dance, we create dance paintings, in a show that combines forms, status, image, composition, symbols, an entire universe contained in a molecule of human immensity.”  Lavinia Răileanu, choreographer.
